GitHub adds HydraFusion Max and updates Copilot multi-model orchestration
On October 14, 2026, GitHub refreshed HydraFusion’s model pool and workflows and added HydraFusion Max for more demanding tasks. Both remain in research preview.

GitHub announced on October 14, 2026 an update to HydraFusion and a new HydraFusion Max option. HydraFusion orchestrates several models to produce one response, so users do not pick a model per task. GitHub says the pool now includes Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, with the models used depending on the workflow.
According to GitHub, HydraFusion previously used each model’s default reasoning effort; it now tailors effort by stage, using medium effort for drafts and high effort for review. Cascade adds a judging step that requests a repair only when needed, and Critique now relies more on tools that inspect the workspace directly, using parallel critic models instead of leaning on text summaries.
HydraFusion Max uses the same architecture and workflows but is tuned for more demanding tasks, applying higher reasoning effort where depth matters most. GitHub positions HydraFusion as a balance of speed, cost and performance, and Max for tasks needing the deepest reasoning and most thorough analysis.
Both options are available in VS Code, the GitHub Copilot app and Copilot CLI and remain in research preview. They are offered on Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business and Enterprise plans with experimental or preview features enabled, subject to organizational model policies.
