Figma launches Specs: Markdown context containers on the canvas for agents and MCP

Figma’s blog says Specs is in open beta: collaborative Markdown specs live on the canvas with design/FigJam embeds, Figma-agent commenting, and handoff to coding agents via Figma MCP, on web, desktop, and mobile for paid plans.

Figma published “Introducing Specs: Markdown as a medium,” announcing Specs—a multiplayer context container on the Figma canvas. Teams can drag .md files onto the canvas to create a spec and embed FigJam boards, frames, or other canvas nodes so text and designs sit together instead of relying on screenshots or brittle links.

The post says the Figma agent can read and reply to comments, collaborating more like a human teammate. After the team aligns, a Spec link can be pasted into a coding-agent prompt; Figma’s MCP server carries Markdown plus references to frames, diagrams, code layers, and Code Connect snippets. The same post notes MCP updates that reduce errors and token use, let agents generate images and code layers, and add about 20 new integrations.

Creation: press D or use the Specs toolbar icon in Figma or FigJam. The post says Specs is available on web, desktop, and mobile, rolling out in open beta to paid plans starting today.
