Copilot’s JetBrains update adds model controls and retires IDE 2025.1 support

GitHub has updated its Copilot plugin for JetBrains with enterprise model defaults, a quicker way to request code repairs, and a switch for keeping MCP tools from starting automatically. It also raises the minimum supported IDE to 2025.2.

An enterprise administrator can set which available agent model a fresh conversation starts with, without removing the user’s explicit picker choice. For code problems flagged by the IDE, the new Fix command launches an inline conversation requesting a repair: agent mode handles it where supported; otherwise it falls back to ask mode.

The MCP preference now offers an off switch for server autostart in both Copilot and Claude. Other changes include navigation between conversation turns, editing or copying one’s own messages, and a command for changing the signed-in account.

Anyone still running JetBrains IDE 2025.1 must move to at least 2025.2 to use Copilot. GitHub points readers to the newest plugin but leaves its release number unspecified; the notice also omits feature-by-feature subscription requirements, charges and geographical coverage.
