DeepMind launches Gemini 4 Carbon, a cyber- and long-horizon-focused frontier model
Google DeepMind announced Gemini 4 Carbon as its strongest Gemini yet, stressing cybersecurity across the defense lifecycle and multi-day agentic engineering. It claims #1 on Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5.0 at 59, with Fairwind access for some cyber defenders starting this week at Argon-matched intro pricing. Broader developer and consumer surfaces are still to follow.

On 28 October 2026 Google DeepMind announced Gemini 4 Carbon as its next frontier model, highlighting cybersecurity and long-horizon capabilities. DeepMind says Carbon ranks #1 on the updated Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5.0 with a score of 59, and reports SEC-bench Pro 88.2% (finding vulnerabilities), ExploitGym 54.8% (exploitation), and CWE-bench 71.0% (patching), plus more than 2× uplift vs Argon on internal secure-code generation. Carbon follows Gemini 4 Argon by about two weeks.
DeepMind describes Carbon as built for harder long-horizon engineering and sustained agentic workflows, saying internal teams ran it for days on root-cause analysis and subtle bug fixes in large codebases. It also claims about +89 Elo on WebDev Arena to roughly #4 (~1768). On collaboration/safety metrics vs Argon, it reports ~2× fewer fabricated claims, ~26% less overreach and ~29% less under-service, and 0.0% attack success on Gray Swan’s indirect prompt-injection benchmark (vs 0.7% for Argon); external cyber benches were evaluated without guardrails per the post. The Decoder independently summarized the AA Index lead and Google’s evals table.
On availability, DeepMind says it is in the U.S. government’s voluntary pre-release testing process and will, starting this week, open Carbon to a subset of cyber defenders via the Fairwind Program, then phase in more trusted partners while iterating guardrails before wider developer, business, and consumer surfaces. Intro pricing matches Argon: $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input at 95% off the input price. Later price-step claims from secondary outlets are not stated on DeepMind’s post and are not treated as confirmed here.
