Suno launches speech generation beta: voices from scripts or descriptions, with optional background music

AI music platform Suno has opened a public beta of Speech to all users on web and mobile. It generates spoken audio from a script or a text description, together with a music bed; each clip can run up to about eight minutes.

Suno has launched Speech (beta), now in public beta for all users on its web and mobile platforms. Users type an idea, a poem or their own writing, describe the voice and musical style they want, and get spoken audio set to original background music; a toggle turns off the music for clean speech. Suno says it is the first audio model that generates voice and music together as one cohesive track. Neither the report nor the announcement says whether the feature costs extra, whether plans have usage limits, or which regions it covers.

The feature sits under the Speech option in the “Create” tab and has two modes: Simple, where you describe what you want (for example, “a pirate captain rallying his crew”), and Advanced, where you can add a custom script and adjust the voice’s gender, speaking style and how much variety each generation has. Clips run up to about eight minutes.

Suno says it spent the past month testing Speech with a small group of users. Suno chief product officer Jack Brody said “beta really does mean beta”: British accents can occasionally wander off to Australia and back, and dramatic pauses may be very dramatic; the company says it will keep improving Speech based on feedback.

AI speech synthesis is not new: Adobe has a text-to-speech tool and ElevenLabs is a well-known platform. The Verge suggests Suno is likely trying to diversify given the many lawsuits its music generator has attracted.
