Claude Max 20x becomes Ultra, dropping the five-hour session limit for verified accounts

On 30 October 2026 Anthropic renamed its Claude plans: the $100/month Max 5x is now Max and the $200/month Max 20x is now Ultra, with unchanged prices and automatic migration. Verified Ultra accounts no longer have the rolling five-hour limit, but the weekly 10x-Pro cap and a separate weekly Fable limit still apply.

A Claude Help Center article updated on 30 October says the Max 20x plan is now called Ultra. Existing Max 20x subscribers move to Ultra automatically with no price change; the web subscription is $200 per month and mobile pricing may vary by app platform. The New Stack reports that Max 5x was renamed Max at the same time and still costs $100 per month, with nothing for subscribers to do.

The main practical change is that verified Ultra accounts no longer have a five-hour session limit and can work at their own pace within the weekly allowance. Anthropic says it verifies Ultra accounts automatically using account and payment history to prevent fraud and abuse; unverified accounts keep a temporary limit that is removed automatically once verified, and verifying a phone number at checkout is a separate step that does not remove it. Under Settings > Usage, no Current session bar means the account is verified.

The weekly cap stays. Ultra includes 10 times Pro’s weekly usage under a limit shared across all models, plus a separate weekly limit for Fable, and Anthropic reserves the right to limit usage in other ways. The New Stack notes that heavy users could exhaust the weekly allowance sooner without the five-hour pause; the pricing page lists Max at 5 times Pro’s weekly usage, the plans include $100 and $200 of monthly Claude Platform API credits respectively, and Anthropic emails users when the cap is lifted.
