Artificial Analysis: Gemini 4 Argon matches GPT-6 Astra on the Intelligence Index at about 60% of Astra’s discounted cost per task
Independent tester Artificial Analysis says Google DeepMind’s Gemini 4 Argon (high reasoning) scores 53 on its Intelligence Index, matching GPT-6 Astra (max); at the current 50% discount and deeper cache discount, one Index task costs about $1.99, roughly 60% of Astra. The model is still rolling out only to selected users.

In a September 30 article, Artificial Analysis says Gemini 4 Argon is Google DeepMind’s first proprietary model above the Flash class in over seven months. At the highest available reasoning setting it scores 53 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, matching GPT-6 Astra (max, 53) and one point ahead of GPT-6.1 Sol (max, 52)—23 points above Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview (30). On the same index chart, Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 still score higher, and Claude Fable ties it. The site attributes gains mainly to fewer hallucinations and stronger agentic results.
At current discounted pricing—standard $4/$20 per million input/output tokens cut 50% to $2/$10, with cached input discounted 95% (about $0.10 per million at discounted pricing)—Gemini 4 Argon (high) costs about $1.99 per Intelligence Index task, roughly 60% of GPT-6 Astra (max, $3.26) but about 2.7× GPT-6.1 Sol (max). The site says the lower cost comes from lower token prices, not fewer tokens: Argon averages about 62k output tokens per task versus 27k for GPT-6 Astra (max). After the promotion ends that rises to about $3.98. Google has not confirmed when the discount ends. The article also states Argon is rolling out to selected users and is not yet publicly available.
On agentic tests, Argon scores 78% on AutomationBench-AA, ahead of Claude Sonnet 5.5 (max, 71%), and 57% on Terminal Bench 4. On AA-Omniscience its hallucination rate is 15%, below GPT-6 Astra (51%) and GPT-6.1 Sol (54%) in the same band, while accuracy is 50% versus Astra’s 63%. Context window is 1M tokens; inputs include text, image, video and speech, with text output. Scores and prices are Artificial Analysis measurements and paraphrases, not a Google promise of broad access.
