Meta open-sources Muse hardware kit; US subscribers can claim a free Home Link

Meta has open-sourced the device SDKs and firmware for connecting its Muse agent to DIY hardware, and is giving its own Muse Home Link device free to US users with an active Muse subscription, one per subscriber, first come, first served.

Meta launched Muse Gadgets, open-sourcing the device SDKs and firmware needed to build Muse hardware. Users can program an off-the-shelf ESP32 board, or set up a Raspberry Pi or Linux machine as a Muse device, then attach screens, buttons, sensors and other hardware. Meta’s examples include a color E Ink display for reminders and shopping lists, a stick that plugs into a TV’s HDMI port, and small touchscreen devices; the TV stick is still marked “coming soon” on the official site.

The code is released under the Apache 2.0 license and provided as-is, without warranty. Before pairing a device, users need an SDK token and must review the Gadget SDK Terms; ESP32 and Linux devices pair through the Muse app on iOS or Android after Developer mode is switched on in its settings. Meta explicitly warns that tinkering may brick boards or void warranties and that users proceed at their own risk.

Meta also made a ready-built device, the Muse Home Link. Once connected to home Wi-Fi, it can use community-built skills to let Muse turn on a light, control a TV or send a document to a printer, depending on the devices a user already has. According to the official site, it is free only to users in the United States with an active Muse subscription, limited to one per subscriber, ships in October, and is first come, first served. Meta Superintelligence Labs’ Nat Friedman said 5,000 units were made.
