Artificial Analysis: GPT-6.1 Sol lands 1 point below GPT-6 Astra on its Intelligence Index at under a quarter of the cost per task

Independent tester Artificial Analysis says GPT-6.1 Sol replaced GPT-6 Sol just 7 days after the latter’s launch; at max effort it scores 1 point below GPT-6 Astra on the site’s Intelligence Index and costs about $0.72 per Index task, less than a quarter of Astra’s $3.26, though it uses 10–30% more output tokens than GPT-6 Sol.

Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index ranking and cost scatter highlighting GPT-6.1 Sol
Charts from Artificial Analysis: the Intelligence Index ranking puts GPT-6.1 Sol (max) at 52, below GPT-6 Astra (max, 53) and three Claude models and above GPT-6 Sol (max, 48) and GPT-5.6 Sol (max, 47); the scatter of index versus cost per task (log scale) shows every GPT-6.1 Sol effort level on the Pareto line. Artificial Analysis measured GPT-6.1 Sol 4 points above GPT-6 Sol and 5 points above GPT-5.6 Sol on its Intelligence Index, 1 point below GPT-6 Astra. Gains concentrate in agentic knowledge work: up 4 points on AA-Briefcase v1.1 and 5 points on GDPval-AA v2.1. Terminal-Bench 4.0 rises 12 points, Humanity’s Last Exam 5 points and GDP.pdf 6 points; AA-Omniscience accuracy rises 8 points while the hallucination rate falls from 60% to 54%.

Per Intelligence Index task, GPT-6.1 Sol (max) costs $0.72 versus $3.26 for GPT-6 Astra (max); it is also 31% cheaper than GPT-6 Sol ($1.05) and 64% cheaper than GPT-5.6 Sol ($1.99). The site says every GPT-6.1 Sol effort level pushes out the cost-efficiency Pareto frontier: for a given intelligence level there is no cheaper model. The trade-off is about 10–30% more output tokens than GPT-6 Sol, although thanks to higher scores its low and medium settings remain Pareto optimal for token efficiency.

Pricing matches GPT-6 Sol at $2/$10 per million input/output tokens, except that the cache-read discount rises from 90% to 95%, making the blended price for agentic workloads slightly lower than GPT-6 Sol. On the site’s Coding Agent Index, GPT-6.1 Sol (max) gains 3 points over GPT-6 Sol and sits 2 points below GPT-6 Astra; the xhigh setting actually beats max by 3 points and scores 1 point above Astra at under 15% of Astra’s cost per task. All scores and costs are Artificial Analysis measurements on its own indexes and settings.
